Some of my favorite things are lamps and lamp shades.
Some are favorites, because they hold memories for me, like this little girl, who gave me light by my bed when I was growing up...
And this, which is one of a pair that lit my mother’s vanity mirror when I was growing up.
I found this lamp at a consignment store years ago. It is a favorite because I am one of those rooster lovers you’ll find all over Blogville (Don’t forget the SHOW US YOUR ROOSTERS PARTY at BELLA VISTA on August 6th!)

You probably already know that I really like Dutch windmills, so this little lamp is a fave too.

This lamp has hooks, which I can use for extra display space (I can ALWAYS use more display space). During holidays, it usually displays ornaments appropriate for the holiday. ![]()
It currently displays a piece of costume jewelry that I recently found at an estate sale.
I also have some lamp shades that are favorites – like this watering can shade on a lamp in our sunroom…

and this vintage shade, which depicts a village and is also in our sunroom.

My newest favorite lamp is this outdoor lamp I found at a moving sale last week. I’ve been wanting one of these outdoor lamps, but this tightwad bargain hunter just couldn’t make herself shell out close to $200 for one of these lamps. You can imagine my excitement when I bargained the owner down to $30 for this great outdoor lamp. I grabbed that lamp (well actually, I tried to grab it – that thing is heavy). I asked my husband to grab that lamp and get it to the car before she changed her mind.
So now, one of my favorite summertime pleasures is to douse myself with mosquito repellent, and sit in the rocker on our back porch and read a book by lamp light. Actually, it is not a summertime pleasure to douse myself with mosquito repellent, but unfortunately, in my neck of the woods, it is a summertime necessity. This is also my contribution to this week’s SUMMER SUNDAYS. Go to THE TABLESCAPER to check out other Summer Sundays contributions.
Thank you for coming to see these little lights of mine (which aren’t easy to photograph. If I turn on the lamp, the photograph has shadows, and if I leave the lamp off, the picture is too dark.). Please go visit the Favorite Things linkups below. laurie

Laurie, I love all of your wonderful lamps. They are just gorgeous. I especially love the rooster one and of course all of your pretty lampshades too. How great are they. Hope you are having a super day. Hugs,Marty
Great post, Laurie! I have my lamp from when I was growing up too. Funny how we hang on to those things. You have some great lamp shades. They don't make them like that any more! I so need to go 'bargain hunting' with you! You score the best stuff. Love the idea of hanging things on the lamp hooks. Have a good weekend. The picture @ the top of your flowers/pool is beautiful. Don't know how you have time to plant flowers, blog & work full-time. You amaze me! LOL!
Laurie you have the cutest lamps and lampshades I have ever seen. I need you to shop with me sometime!!
Laurie, Love that rooster!!! All of your lamps are so pretty and/or special. I love outdoor lamps. I snagged a tabletop one for $5 and am thrilled. Looks like a thrown pottery beanpot. You reminded me that I have to put my lamp out on the patio for a par-tay tonite. :-) Have a great weekend.
hugs, sue
You have a beautiful selection. I especially love the rooster one :)
Hi Laurie!
All of your lamps are just wonderful! And the lampshades are all so pretty!
I hear ya about the skeeter issue! This is the worst I can ever remember them being!
Okay, now if you really love Dutch windmills, then you need to visit Michigan! Yup, in Holland, Michigan is where you will find the only true Dutch Windmill in America! It's a very fun place to visit.

Hope you have a great weekend!
Your lamps are very cute. It is always nice to have lamps around.
Thanks for hosting.

Laurie: I love the rooster lamp, but they are all wonderful! Jennifer
I love little accent lamps. Yours are all beautiful Laurie.
We've been a tad busy this week, so I didn't get a Saturday Fav. post ready. Hope I can next week.
I am excited! We are meeting a couple of bloggers for the first time, this evening.
This post has been so much fun. How cool is the lamp with hooks and the idea to change its trimmings for different seasons or holidays!
I am very much looking forward to the ROOSTER PARTY. Tomorrow I am headed off to Holland Fest only a bit down the road from me.
And I do understand your mosquito dilemma.
So- I really can relate!
Hi sweet friend...
Ohhh my goodness...talk about "eye candy"!!! Girlfriend, I have a "thing" for pretty lamps too...so getting to look through some of your favorites was such a treat!!! I honestly can't say which is my favorite because I absolutely adored each and every pretty lamp and shade! hehe! I do sooo love your rooster lamp and the shade is soooo beautiful! I love how it looks with the light shining through it! Ohhh...and I also really like that pretty lamp with the hooks! Love the crystals and that gorgeous fleur de lis piece! Sooo pretty, Laurie!!! Girl, I can't believe that you found that beautiful outdoor lamp for just $3...what a great deal! I'm sooo happy for you! So goes the saying..."Good things come to those who wait"! Hehe! Well Darlin', thank you so much for sharing your beautiful lamps and shades with us today!!! You DO let your light shine...so beautifully!!! (and in more ways than one!)
Thank you so much for hosting "A Few of my Favorite Things Saturday"! I was able to participate this week...sure did enjoy it!!! Thank you, sweet friend!
Love ya,
Chari
Cute, cute, cute! It's nice that you still have your childhood lamp, I would love that to pieces! And don't you love a great deal! Good job!
I had to laugh when I read about "dousing yourself with mosquitto repellent!!" It would be so nice to say that you sit outdoors in the pleasant evening, reading, blah, blah, blah, but you really told it like it is!!! I'm tired of wearing Deep Woods Off for perfume! lol!
Have a happy weekend, Laurie!
xoxo

Oh I should have known Laurie!
You the most awesome collection of lamps I have ever seen! They are so charming and so vintage looking!
That watering can lamp and the one that belong to your Mom are some of my faves but actually I love them all.
I adore your outdoor place!
That outdoor lamp is way cool and now I want one of those too!
Happy Weekend and thanks for being our hostess with the mostest!
Cindy
You have some pretty lamps - thanks for sharing them with us.
And thank you for hosting again this week.
Know what you mean about the mosquitoes. I sat outside for just a few minutes last weekend - I am a wimp - could not handle the heat! Last I heard today, the heat index was 106 !! :O
Have a great weekend.
Me again! :D Just heard a heat index of 112, 116, 118 in that order the next 3 days !!! :O
I love lamps, too! Every day I have 7 lamps turned on in my kitchen, not because I need the light, but because I love the ambience of lamp light. I used to design and make lamps at one juncture. I've always wanted to take a course on how to make really gorgeous lampshades. Thanks for sharing your lamp collection with us. Cherry Kay
Your lamps are very pretty. Laurie. The rooster is one of my favorites but your lampshades are really something. I never those printed ones in stores. They are just lovely. Glad you found that beautiful porch lamp....Christine
Laurie, I have such a lamp fettish. I will see a new one I want and then have to figure out which one I am replacing and then that one goes to the mess in the bonus room. I love your pretty lamps. Love the two shades of the ones in your sunroom with the watering cans and the village scene. Those are art in themselves.
First time on your blog and i really love it! Great polka dot tablescape! WOW I love it all. LOVE the rooster lamp...HAAAAA
I joined your party and added your link to my Friday parties on my side bars and will join next week too. I always post favorites :)
I am following you too and would love if you come see my blog and follow me back :)

Laurie, your lamps and the shades are terrific. I have a definite passion for lamps. I don't think there is a better accessory because lamps are both decorative and useful. My contribution this week is a book review. I recommend that you find a copy and enjoy reading it as you rock away on your back porch. ~ Sarah
What nice memories! And your new outdoor lamp is quite the find!
I like that lampshade. Your dh goes to yard sales with you??? Wahh! Mine won't go and discourages me from going!
I will be late to the party. I was baking all day making take homes or what's that l word you southern gals use? Lagniappes? Beachcombers Ball tomorrow night.
I love your lamps, Laurie! I bet you know which is my favorite! Yep...the rooster! lol Hope you are having a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie
Laurie, These are terrific! I think on the most part, we underestimate lamps! Maybe I am just too much of a 'detail' person, but lamps are important! They are not to be overlooked! Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful lamps! They are beautiful! I have some cheap ol' ones in my house that need some character like these...I will be on the hunt! Have a great weekend! Thanks for hosting!
Oh I do love a great lamp Laurie!! Yours are wonderful and the shades are great- I have some desperately needed shade redos- Also have 1/2 dozen lamps that need a little tweaking that are stuffed here and there!
You are so right about trying to take a picture of a lamp- surely there must be a tutorial on that somewhere!!!

I love the little girl happily harvesting wheat with her golden sickle. I wish all my garden chores seemed so wonderful.
Laurie, I love your little dutch windmill lamp! And the lamps that were on your mothers vanity when you were a girl. I think it's wonderful that you still have those.
Thanks for hosting Favorite Things Saturday! Hope you are having a great weekend!
Thanks for having us again Laurie and thanks for sharing these lovely pictures of your lights-they are stunning!
Best wishes always,
Natasha, Stacey and Holly.
Laurie,
Your lamps are lovely. I love windmills too. There used to be a shop out in the Hamptons that only had blue and white delft treasures. I remember buying a sweet vase with windmills. Your collection of lamps is wonderful.
Karen

I love all of your lamps. You have quite a collection. I'm especially partial to the rooster lamp. I, of course, have a pig lamp! I'm sure you're not surprised.
I love this post with all your favorite lamps Laurie, because I too love lamps. I just love unique lamps like your rooster lamp and how cool that you displayed your fleur de lis pin on one lamp.
