Remember when we had never even heard of the word “tablescape”? Well, at least I had not ever heard of it, and my spell check STILL has never heard of it. (Some of you may think, from looking at my tables, that I still don’t know the meaning of the word!) Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, has educated Blogville with her weekly tablescape parties. She seems to effortlessly sail through hosting and posting tablescapes, so that was the inspiration for my tablescape today.
Do you see the sailboat on the table in the sunroom behind this setting? I had planned to set the table outside by the pool, so I made a sailboat on one of the grandchildren’s kick boards to put in the pool. Of course, I had to work late today, and it was too dark and the mosquitoes were too bad for me to set up my table outside. You’ll have to imagine that the sailboat on the other table is floating in a pool behind this table!!
I used fish shaped snack trays for the salad plates.
The table after everyone puts their sailboat on their lap:
A vintage cocktail shaker and juice goblets became candle holders, and a shell dessert dish (yes, it’s a dish, although I’ve never served a dessert that small. I would be concerned about the cleanliness of serving from a real shell) became salt cellars.
Susan has turned tablescaping into THE event in Blogville. Thank you, Susan, for educating me, inspiring me, and hosting SO many bloggers for Tablescape Tuesday (yes, it used to be on Tuesday) and Tablescape Thursday. (It really confused my husband when it started looking like we were having a party on Wednesday night instead of Monday night. Just when he became accustomed to seeing the table decorated on Monday night, Susan switched the Tablescape parties to Thursdays!) Be sure you go to Between Naps on the Porch to get links to all of the tablescapes in Blogville, because everyone is celebrating Susan’s 100th tablescaping party! Congratulations Susan!
Thank you for coming to visit me today. I hope you’ll link up for A Few of my Favorite Things Saturday. The linky will be on my blog Friday night. laurie
